Barga
Il Borgo Medioevale che risale al XIV secolo ancora oggi conserva l’aspetto e le caratteristiche tipicamente fiorentine. Il centro storico è caratterizzato da un tipico dedalo di vicoli delimitati dagli antichi palazzi rinascimentali. Barga era originariamente un antico castello cinto da una cerchia muraria dotata di tre porte di accesso con le strade ed i vicoli che obbediscono alle esigenze difensive in tempo di guerra. Barga fu durante l’alto medioevo un importante centro commerciale per il legame che la univa a Firenze e soprattutto per la disponibilità di grandi riserve idriche sfruttate allora per il funzionamento di molini, frantoi, tintorie e filande che producevano la seta. I suoi imponenti palazzi rinascimentali sono la prova della ricchezza commerciale ed industriale di cui godeva: il Palazzo dei Conti Pancrazzi, il Palazzo del Vescovo Balduini, il Palazzo dei Marchesi Angeli, il Palazzo Tallinucci e altri palazzi dell’epoca fiancheggiano la via che da Porta Reale giunge, attraversando tutto il castello, fino a Porta Macchiaia, dove a metà strada si trova il Teatro dei Differenti, costruito nel 1600 e ampliato nel 1700 con tre ordini di palchi.
Nella parte sommitale del paese sorge imponente il Duomo (IX-XIII) dal cui arringo si può godere di uno dei panorami più suggestivi sulle Apuane e sul Monte Forato. Oggi il Comune di Barga con le sue frazioni conta 10.300 abitanti.
LUOGHI DA VISITARE
Duomo di Barga: La prima costruzione del Duomo di Barga risale avanti il mille ma fu successivamente ampliato in varie fasi nel corso del XII e del XIV secolo. Con la costruzione delle due cappelle e del coro, avvenuta tra il 1500 e il 1600, si raggiunge la definitiva architettura della chiesa. L’interno è a tre navate. A destra il bellissimo fonte battesimale in marmo bianco intarsiato. Plutei di lastre di marmo rosso e bianco intarsiato dividono trasversalmente la chiesa. Il pulpito, vera opera d’arte, è decorato a bassorilievo con scene dell’Antico e del Nuovo Testamento. In una nicchia è conservata una grande statua lignea rappresentante il titolare della chiesa, S.Cristoforo, con Gesù Bambino sulla spalla, mentre lo aiuta ad attraversare il fiume.
Teatro dei Differenti: Costruito nel 1600 e ampliato nel 1700 con tre ordini di palchi è stato recentemente restaurato ospita stagioni teatrali e manifestazioni musicali.Casa-Museo di Giovanni Pascoli: Poco distante da Barga, a Castelvecchio si può visitare la casa dove visse Giovanni Pascoli con la sorella Mariù dal 1895 fino alla morte, avvenuta nel 1912.
Il poeta scelse questo luogo per la tranquillità e la bellezza del paesaggio. Qui riposa con la sorella nella cappella adiacente alla villa. Nella casa, ancora con gli arredi originari, sono raccolti tutti i manoscritti, i diplomi e i libri del poeta. Pieve di Loppia: La chiesa di grandi dimensioni è una delle più antiche pievi romaniche della vallata. La casa della Befana: Tutte le frazioni montane del comune di Barga rappresentano veri e propri gioielli della civiltà rurale ma Pegnana Alta merita una visita per una curiosità particolare perché qui vive, nella sua casetta nel bosco, la Befana. Ogni domenica si può andare a trovarla, parlare con lei e realizzare i sogni dei bambini di tutte le età.
Da non perdere l’Annunciazione nella Chiesa di Tiglio, e il castello di Sommocolonia.
Barga
Medieval town dating back to the 14th century still retains its typical Florentine aspect and features. Its historical centre is characterized by the typical narrow streets flanked by old Renaissance buildings. Barga was originally a castle surrounded by walls with gates and the typical lanes of a fortified town. During the Middle Ages, Barga was an important commercial centre because of its ties with Florence and also for the availability of vast water reserves used in mills, olive presses, and in the silk making process. Barga’s imposing buildings of the Renaissance are evidence of the commercial and industrial prosperity it enjoyed: the Palazzo dei Conti Pancrazzi, the Palazzo del Vescovo Balduini, il Palazzo dei Marchesi Angeli, il Palazzo Tallinucci and other buildings of the period line the street that goes from Porta Reale , through the historical centre to porta Macchiaia, where halfway there is the teatro dei Differenti (the theatre), built in 1600 and extended in 1700 with three tiers of boxes. At the summit of the town, from the esplanade of the magnificent (9- 13th cent.) cathedral – il Duomo – you can admire one of the most suggestive views of the Apuan Alps and Monte Forato

Duomo di Barga – the Cathedral: the earliest construction of the cathedral dates back to before 1000 with following extensions carried out between the 12th and 14th cent. With the addition of the two chapels and choir in 1500 and 1600, the Cathedral reached its definite architectural structure. In its interior: 3 naves. On the right a beautiful baptismal font in white inlaid marble. Red and white plutei of inlaid marble divide the Cathedral transversally. The pulpit, considered a work of art, is decorated in bas-relief with scenes from the Old and New Testament. In a niche, a large wooden statue of the patron Saint Christopher crossing the river with the Child Jesus on his shoulder.
Teatro dei Differenti (theatre): built in 1600 and extended in 1700 with three tiers of boxes has been recently restored and re-opened offering a particularly interesting theatrical season. Giovanni Pascoli’s house-museum: near Barga at Castelvecchio you can visit the house where Giovanni Pascoli lived with his sister Mariù from 1895 up to his death in 1912. The poet chose this spot for its tranquil and beautiful setting. He and his sister are buried in the adjacent chapel. The house contains the original furniture, the poet’s manuscripts, diplomas and books. Pieve di Loppia – Parish Church of Loppia: One of the oldest and largest Romanesque parish churches in the valley. La casa della Befana – the Befana’s house: All the hillside hamlets of the Comune di Barga represent a treasure trove of rural life, but Pegnana Alta is worth a visit for the curious reason that the Befana lives here in a little wooden cabin in the woods. She is there every Sunday to welcome children and adults of all ages and to make their dreams come true.Even the “Annunciation” in the Church in Tiglio and the castle at Sommocolonia are a must see.
